Madonna’s number one hit Like A Prayer has topped a list of her ultimate tracks, compiled to celebrate her 50th birthday.
She turns 50 on Sunday and to mark the occasion a group of music experts at HMV’s new website getcloser.com have compiled her top 50 hits.
Pop classic Like A Prayer, released in 1989, was number one, with her 2005 dance hit Hung Up in second place. Into the Groove is in third, 90s hit Ray Of Light was placed fourth and Music takes the fifth spot.
A music insider said: “The title cut of Like A Prayer marked her transition from hugely famous pop singer to hugely famous pop ‘artist’. Even now it’s hard to hear the song without flashes of that controversial video; the stigmata! the burning crosses! Let The Choir Sing!
“The variety of the tracks in the top ten alone reflect the diversity and longevity of Madonna’s career that make her the Queen Of Pop.”
Open Your Heart, Vogue, Holiday, Frozen and Like a Virgin finish off the top ten.
